This manuscript (1970) was written by Cecil H. Kirk under contract for the Montana Power Company. Titled "A History of Montana Power," the manuscript discusses the history of electricity in Montana and the history of the Montana Power Company. This manuscript consists two versions of a history of electricity in Montana and the development and operation of the Montana Power Company, as written by Kirk while under contract with the Montana Power Company. The history describes the development of electrical power in the state, as well as the construction of dams and the development of natural gas power. Collection includes the author's personal copy as well as copies of the version presented to the Montana Power Company.

Cecil Humphry Kirk was born on October 3, 1899, in Ashland, Wisconsin, to George and Carrie Kirk. The Kirk's moved to Lewistown, Montana, in 1907, where they operated a health resort. Cecil graduated from Fergus County High School in 1917 and then went on to attend the University of Wisconsin at Madison.
